Geographical Structuring of Quercus robur (L.) Chloroplast DNA Haplotypes in Lithuania: Recolonization, Adaptation, or Overexploitation Effects?

نویسندگان

چکیده

We studied the maternally inherited chloroplast DNA polymorphism at three microsatellite loci of 157 Quercus robur trees from 38 native populations in Lithuania. found high diversity eight haplotypes Balkan lineage A (frequency 0.75) and “German” subbranch (freq. 0.12), western eastern Italian lineages C 0.05 0.06, respectively), Iberian B 0.03). The were geographically well structured (among population differentiation index PhiPT = 0.30, p-value < 0.001) that is unexpected for such a small territory as raised hypothesis on historical overexploitation oaks by eliminating certain Lithuania, following drastic felling oak forests over last few centuries.

INTENZITET FOTOSINTEZE I VEGETATIVNI RAST HRASTA LUŽNJAKA (Quercus robur L.) U POKUSNOM NASADU PHOTOSYNTESIS INTENSITY AND VEGETATIVE GROWTH OF PEDUNCULATE OAK (Quercus robur L.) IN COMMON-GARDEN EXPERIMENT

Chloroplast DNA variation and postglacial recolonization of common ash (Fraxinus excelsior L.) in Europe.

We used chloroplast polymerase chain reaction-restriction-fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) and chloroplast microsatellites to assess the structure of genetic variation and postglacial history across the entire natural range of the common ash (Fraxinus excelsior L.), a broad-leaved wind-pollinated and wind-dispersed European forest tree. A low level of polymorphism was observed, with only...

Chloroplast DNA footprints of postglacial recolonization by oaks.

Recolonization of Europe by forest tree species after the last glaciation is well documented in the fossil pollen record. This spread may have been achieved at low densities by rare events of long-distance dispersal, rather than by a compact wave of advance, generating a patchy genetic structure through founder effects. In long-lived oak species, this structure could still be discernible by usi...

Regeneration Patterns of European Oak Species (Quercus petraea (Matt.) Liebl., Quercus robur L.) in Dependence of Environment and Neighborhood

Quercus robur L. (pedunculate oak) and Quercus petraea (Matt.) Liebl. (sessile oak) are two European oak species of great economic and ecological importance. Even though both oaks have wide ecological amplitudes of suitable growing conditions, forests dominated by oaks often fail to regenerate naturally. The regeneration performance of both oak species is assumed to be subject to a variety of v...

Phylogeographical variation of chloroplast DNA in cork oak (Quercus suber).

BACKGROUND AND AIMS In the last decades, the geographical location of the centre of origin of Quercus suber (cork oak), a strictly western Mediterranean oak species, has been the subject of controversy. METHODS RFLP variation over the whole chloroplast DNA molecule and PCR-RFLPs over seven specific cpDNA fragments were analysed phylogeographically to reconstruct the evolutionary history of co...
